Lake Compounce, Amusement park in Bristol, Connecticut, United States
Lake Compounce is an amusement park in Bristol, Connecticut, covering approximately 365 acres with a mix of roller coasters, classic rides, and water attractions. The park includes a dedicated water section called Crocodile Cove, which features slides, pools, and splash areas for families.
The site began in 1846 as a simple picnic area by the lake, gradually adding rides and attractions over the following decades. Today it holds the title of the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the United States.
The title refers to Chief John Compound of the Mattatuck-Tunxis tribe, who signed the deed for the lake property in 1684. Families often spend entire days here, moving between traditional rides and water attractions throughout the park grounds.
The park opens from April through December and hosts seasonal events during autumn and winter months. Visitors will find food stands, restrooms, and lockers spread throughout the grounds for convenience.
The wooden roller coaster Boulder Dash received the Golden Ticket Award for best wooden coaster worldwide for five consecutive years. The track runs partly through the wooded hillside along the lake shore, weaving between trees.
