Wildcat, Wooden roller coaster at Lake Compounce, Bristol, Connecticut
Wildcat is a wooden roller coaster with a double out-and-back structure that sends riders down two separate tracks in opposite directions. The track features multiple hills, twisting curves, and a tunnel before reaching the final brake run section.
The coaster was built in 1927 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and ranks among the oldest continuously operating wooden roller coasters in the world. Since its opening, it has undergone various improvements while maintaining its location and fundamental design.
The coaster plays a role in local leisure culture and draws visitors who value the adrenaline rush and craftsmanship of wooden track construction. It has become a symbol of classic American amusement park experiences for generations of riders.
The best time to visit is during warmer months when the park operates at full capacity and the coaster is open for extended hours. Wear comfortable shoes and plan for typical wait times common at amusement parks during peak seasons.
The coaster has occupied the same location at Lake Compounce since opening, which is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the United States. This allows visitors to experience a landscape shaped by over a century of American recreational development.
