Tyrone, borough in Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States

Tyrone is a home rule municipality in Blair County, Pennsylvania, with its own independent governance structure. The town sits in a region marked by the Little Juniata River and Bald Eagle Creek, surrounded by oak, hickory, and maple forests with moderate terrain.

Originally named Eagleville and later Shorbsville, the town adopted the name Tyrone in 1852 and became an official borough in 1857 when residents sought railroad connections for economic growth. In 1982, it transitioned to a home rule government system that allowed greater local autonomy.

The town is easily walkable with shops, cafes, and grocery stores for everyday needs, located close enough to larger cities for short day trips. Surrounding forests and river areas offer space for hiking and picnicking outdoors.

A 1916 government building remains a local landmark so significant that upon opening, all local businesses closed so residents could attend the dedication ceremony. The town elected its first female mayor, Patricia Stoner, in 1998, reflecting how local leadership has evolved.
