Jenkintown, Borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Jenkintown is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, situated northeast of Philadelphia. The community features residential neighborhoods separated by a business district along Old York Road.
The area was founded by Welsh settler William Jenkins in 1697 and later developed as a separate settlement. The borough was formally incorporated in 1874 when lands separated from the neighboring Abington Township.
The residential landscape shows large detached houses on the east side of Old York Road and row houses with duplexes on the west side. These different housing styles shape how the place looks and reflect how people have built their homes here over time.
The area is served by the Jenkintown-Wyncote train station connecting to Philadelphia through the SEPTA Regional Rail network. The Old York Road business district offers shops and services at the heart of the community.
The location along historic Old York Road shaped early settlement patterns and remains a commercial hub. This road connection made the area a natural meeting point between rural and urban development in the region.
