Detroit Olympia, Sports arena in Detroit, United States

Detroit Olympia was a sports arena in Detroit that housed one of the largest indoor ice rinks of its era. The red brick building with steel framing held a capacity of about 15,000 spectators.

Construction began in 1927 when Mayor John W. Smith laid the cornerstone, and the venue opened later that same year. The facility remained in operation until 1979 before being demolished in 1986.

The arena hosted legendary performances and served as home to the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. Visitors experienced both music icons and sporting events that shaped the city's entertainment history.

The site was located on Grand River Avenue and was easily accessible to visitors. Today, the location no longer stands, as the building was demolished decades after it closed.

The Olympia hosted boxing matches, including bouts featuring legendary boxer Joe Louis in the 1930s. These events made the venue an important location for professional boxing in America.
