Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, Outlet shopping center in Central Valley, New York, United States
Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is an outlet center in the countryside north of New York City, divided into nine color-coded sections with more than 220 shops. The facilities are outdoor, with walkways connecting clothing, footwear and accessory stores along wide avenues that include benches and small food courts.
The center opened in 1985 as a modest regional shopping site with fewer than 30 stores. It grew through multiple expansions over the following decades, attracting new brands and international visitors.
The name combines Woodbury, a nearby town in the region, with the American tradition of outlet villages built in rural areas since the 1970s. The entire site is laid out like an outdoor shopping street, with visitors walking between low buildings and wide pavements.
Visitors arriving by car will find extensive parking areas near each section, and on peak summer days or during the holiday season the walkways and stores can become crowded. Many shops open early in the morning and close late in the evening, allowing visitors to spend several hours on site.
Some of the larger shops employ staff who speak several languages, making shopping easier for travelers from Asia and Europe. On weekends, private shuttle buses run directly from Manhattan and other parts of the region, simplifying the journey for tourists without rental cars.
