Goosepond Mountain State Park

Goosepond Mountain State Park is a natural area in Chester covering about 1,558 acres with forests, fields, and wetlands that support diverse wildlife. The property includes different types of habitats where songbirds and other native animals live throughout the year.

The park came into public ownership through funding from New York Bond Acts approved in 1960 and 1962. This financial support enabled the state to acquire and protect the land for public use.

The park serves as a place where people come to walk and ride horses through forests and open spaces, connecting with the natural surroundings. Visitors find here a way to step away from daily life and spend time outdoors.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset at 1198 New York 17M and has limited parking available. Visitors should plan accordingly since there are no restroom facilities on the grounds.

A wooden boardwalk cuts through the wetland sections of the park, allowing people to walk through these delicate environments without disturbing them. From this elevated path, visitors can observe wildlife and birds up close in their natural setting.
