Merrill is a fourth-class city and county seat of Lincoln County in Wisconsin, located next to the Wisconsin River with a mix of brick buildings and newer structures throughout. Tree-lined streets, parks with family spaces, and nearby boat launches serve both residents and visitors year-round.
The area was originally inhabited by the Chippewa and began formal settlement in 1854 as a logging-based town called Jenny. In 1881 it was renamed Merrill, and by 1874 it became the county seat of newly established Lincoln County.
