Cape Henry, Promontory at Atlantic shore in Virginia Beach, United States.

Cape Henry is a headland on the Atlantic shore that marks the southern entrance to Chesapeake Bay, with sandy beaches and coastal landscapes throughout the area. Today it is accessed through First Landing State Park, which provides walking trails and educational markers about the site's historical context.

English colonists arrived at this location in 1607 and named it after an English prince before moving inland to establish their first settlement. This headland thus marks the starting point of European presence along this stretch of coast.

The memorial cross at this location marks where early English settlers gathered for religious observance upon arrival. Visitors today experience the site as a place of historical reflection and spiritual significance tied to colonial beginnings.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as trails wind through sandy and sometimes uneven coastal terrain. The area is best explored during calm weather when paths are easily accessible and ocean views are unobstructed.

Two lighthouses stand at this location: the 1792 structure, which was the nation's first federally built lighthouse, and a later one from 1881. These two buildings reflect the long history of coastal navigation and how maritime technology evolved over generations.
