Needham, Residential town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts
Needham is a residential town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, located about 10 miles southwest of Boston. The town consists of several neighborhoods with wide streets, parks, and small commercial centers spread across a wooded area.
The settlement was established in 1680 and separated from Dedham before being officially incorporated as an independent town in 1711. In the 19th century, the town shifted from an agricultural area to a center for textile production, later replaced by technology-oriented companies.
For many residents, the town serves as a place where people live in quiet residential areas while staying close to Boston. Local shops, restaurants, and community events shape daily life across different neighborhood centers.
Three MBTA commuter rail stations offer direct connections to South Station in Boston, making it easy for commuters and visitors to reach the area. The town is accessible via several main roads that lead into the center from different directions.
In the first half of the 20th century, a small factory here produced paper goods before the economy shifted toward research and development. Today, many residents work at technology companies that have set up operations in the area.
