Point Beach Nuclear Plant, nuclear power plant in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin
Point Beach Nuclear Plant is a nuclear power facility near Two Creeks, Wisconsin that generates electricity through nuclear reactions. The site contains two pressurized water reactors cooled by Lake Michigan water and produces enough power to supply thousands of homes across the region.
Construction began in the mid-1960s with Unit 1 opening in 1970 and Unit 2 in 1972. The facility has operated continuously since then, receiving license renewals and undergoing regular maintenance and upgrades to maintain safe power generation through the decades.
An information center on the grounds offers exhibits and details about how the plant operates and nuclear energy technology. Note that certain areas have restricted access for security reasons, so advance notice may be needed to arrange a visit.
The site spans over 1,000 acres but only a small portion houses the nuclear structures. The remaining land is used for farming or solar panel installations, showing how the facility shares space with other land uses.
