Mamaroneck, Coastal town in Westchester County, New York, United States.
Mamaroneck is a coastal town in Westchester County, about 18 miles (29 kilometers) north of Manhattan, stretching along Long Island Sound. The community includes both densely populated residential neighborhoods and harbor areas spread across land and water.
The settlement developed from the 17th century as a trading point between European colonists and native groups along the river. In the late 19th century, the place transformed from a rural community into a commercial center with formal administrative structures.
The waterfront draws locals and boaters especially on weekends and during warm months. Many families spend time in small parks along the water, where you can often watch sailboats and yachts while walking.
Most shops and restaurants sit along main roads near the water and are easy to reach on foot or by car. Parking spaces can usually be found in residential neighborhoods and near harbor facilities, especially on weekdays without major difficulty.
A large part of the coastline consists of private boat docks and yacht clubs that shape the townscape. The inner harbor offers workshops and yards where pleasure boats are built and repaired throughout the year.
