Southampton

Southampton is a coastal town in Suffolk County that stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and Peconic Bay. The area includes residential neighborhoods, business districts, and natural preserves.

English colonists from Lynn, Massachusetts founded this settlement in 1640, making it one of the earliest European communities in New York. Over time, it became a major center for whaling and maritime trade.

The Southampton Arts Center hosts exhibitions that reflect the town's ongoing connection with the Shinnecock Indian Nation. This relationship continues to shape how the community celebrates its heritage.
