Allegany Indian Reservation, Native American reservation in Cattaraugus County, United States.
Allegany Indian Reservation is a Seneca Nation land in western New York spanning both sides of the Allegheny River. The area contains forests, river valleys, and several settlements where tribal members live and conduct their daily affairs.
The land was originally inhabited by other peoples before the Seneca expanded their territory in the 1600s. In the 1900s, a major dam project altered the landscape and forced the relocation of several communities.
The Seneca language and traditions remain part of daily life here, passed down through families and community gatherings. Visitors can experience traditional crafts and events that connect people to their heritage.
The reservation has an administrative center in Jimerson Town where visitors can learn more about the community. Several villages and public areas are accessible, though some sections are reserved for tribal members.
A dam constructed in the 1960s flooded large portions of the reservation, permanently reshaping the landscape. The effects of this event remain visible today in how the land and communities are arranged.
