Brooklyn Technical High School, Public science high school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, United States
Brooklyn Technical High School is a public science and technology high school in Fort Greene, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York City. The building houses specialized laboratories, workshops, and an auditorium that holds more than 3,000 students.
The institution opened in 1922 in response to growing industrial demand for technically trained workers. A decade later, the school moved to its current building, which cost six million dollars to construct.
The school goes by the nickname Brooklyn Tech and offers technical majors such as aerospace or electrical engineering, which students choose after two years of general education. Classes follow a college-like system, with the majors shaping daily academic life.
Admission takes place through a competitive entrance exam, with roughly 1,400 new students selected annually from around 30,000 applicants. Access is restricted for visitors outside school hours, as it remains an active educational building.
The building houses the WNYE-FM radio studio, which broadcasts programs across the city. More than 100 student clubs organize activities, including engineering groups and research projects.
