Railroad construction through the area in 1852 brought settlement to the location and established it as a stopping point. The village was officially incorporated in 1869 as the community continued to grow around the rail connection.
The name Minooka comes from Native American language roots meaning maple forest, reflecting the wooded character of the region. Walking through the village, you still notice how trees and green spaces shape its residential streets and open areas.
