Xfinity Center, basketball arena at the University of Maryland
The Xfinity Center is an indoor arena on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, built to serve as the home venue for the university's sports teams. The building has multiple seating levels arranged around a central court, with clear sightlines from most seats.
The arena opened in 2002 under the name Comcast Center, replacing the older Cole Field House as the university's main sports venue. It was renamed in 2014 after the cable provider Xfinity, the name it still carries today.
On game days, fans of all ages fill the seats wearing the team's red and white colors, and the crowd is a mix of students, alumni, and families from the surrounding area. This shared presence gives the building a strong connection to the everyday life of the university.
Parking on campus fills up fast on event days, so arriving early or booking a spot in advance is a good idea. The arena is reachable by public transit, and accessible seating areas are clearly marked throughout the building.
Near the entrance, a small exhibit area displays trophies, old jerseys, and other items tied to Maryland basketball history. Visitors who arrive before the crowds have time to look through it at their own pace before the event starts.
