Area codes 610 and 484, Telephone prefix in southeastern Pennsylvania, United States
Area codes 610 and 484 cover twelve counties in southeastern Pennsylvania, including Allentown, Bethlehem, Reading, and parts of the Philadelphia suburbs. These regions stretch across a mix of urban centers, suburban neighborhoods, and rural communities along the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.
The 610 area code was created in 1994 from a split with the 215 region to accommodate population and business growth in the area. In 1999, 484 was added as an overlay code, followed by 835 in 2022 to meet the rising demand for telephone numbers.
These area codes connect diverse communities across urban centers, suburban neighborhoods, and rural areas throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.
All calls within these area code regions require dialing ten digits, including the area code before the local number. This practice applies to both landline and mobile phones throughout the region.
The introduction of code 835 in September 2022 created a triple overlay system that uses three different area codes simultaneously within the same geographic boundaries. This arrangement allows residents to have phone numbers with any of the three codes for the same address.
