Woodcrest, Historic mansion in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania.
Woodcrest is a large mansion in Radnor Township built in the Tudor Revival style with three stories and multiple rooms spread throughout. The building's layout reflects the way it was designed as a private residence, with distinct spaces flowing into one another.
A wealthy banker from Philadelphia commissioned a prominent architect to design and build this mansion in 1901. The property later changed hands and became home to an educational institution that operates there to this day.
The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus acquired the property in 1953 to serve their educational mission. The spaces inside reflect how a private mansion transformed into a place where students gather to learn and study.
The building sits on King of Prussia Road and currently functions as the main administration building of a university. Keep in mind that this is an active workplace, so visiting hours and access policies apply.
The building preserves original Tudor Revival details even though its original function changed completely from a private home to an educational workplace. This contrast gives visitors a window into how wealthy bankers once lived in a different era.
