Chanticleer Garden, Botanical garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania, United States.
Chanticleer is a botanical garden spread across 48 acres with open lawns, perennial borders, wooded areas, and water features throughout. A Colonial Revival mansion built in 1913 sits at the center of this layered landscape.
The estate originally belonged to the Rosengarten family, who ran a pharmaceutical business that merged with Merck & Co in 1927. The property underwent transformation and opened to the public as a garden in 1993.
The grounds are divided into distinct sections, each with its own planting style and character that visitors encounter as they walk through. These separate spaces create different moods and visual experiences throughout the day.
The garden is located on Church Road in Wayne and is open to visitors from April through October. Wear comfortable shoes as the grounds are extensive and there are numerous sections to explore.
The name Chanticleer comes from the French word for rooster and appears in decorative elements and architectural details throughout the grounds in unexpected ways. Observant visitors often notice these playful references woven into the site's design.
