Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge

Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area in Limestone with diverse habitats for wildlife. It combines wetlands, forests, and open fields that support various bird, mammal, and plant species.

The land was originally a military base but was converted to a conservation area in 1998. The transformation of the former Loring Air Force Base site marked the start of preservation work on this land.

The refuge has 13 miles of walking trails and two observation areas accessible from sunrise to sunset. Visitors should prepare for changing seasons, as wildlife viewing varies depending on migration timing.
