USS Sequoia, Presidential yacht on the waterfront in Belfast and Deltaville, United States
The USS Sequoia is a 105-foot (32-meter) motor yacht docked on the waterfront in Belfast and Deltaville. Its interior displays mahogany woodwork in the salons and cabins, with classic maritime details from the first half of the twentieth century.
The ship was built in 1925 as a private yacht and passed into American government ownership in 1931. It remained in official use until 1977, serving nine presidents across nearly five decades.
The ship served as a floating retreat where American presidents held informal conversations and received guests. Its name comes from the California redwood trees, referring to their size and longevity.
Visitors can view the ship at the French and Webb facilities, where craftsmen work on the restoration. The shipyard is located on the water and is easiest to access during daylight hours.
The ship contains the original bathtub and bed from the presidential cabin, which date back to before the Second World War. It also features a small galley with original fittings where state dinners were prepared.
