The Wharf, Mixed-use development in Southwest Waterfront, Washington D.C
The Wharf is a large mixed-use development with apartments, offices, and entertainment venues along a waterway in Southwest Washington D.C. The site spans extensive land and water areas with piers, boardwalks, and two parks for walking and leisure.
The project began in 2014 to revive an underutilized section of Washington D.C.'s waterfront. This transformation turned what was once overlooked land into a vibrant destination with new structures and public spaces.
The four public piers and waterfront walkways create gathering spaces where people meet and spend time together. Year-round festivals and outdoor performances here reflect how the site has become a center of community life.
The site is easily reachable by various transportation options, including water taxis, metro stations, and bike paths. Visitors heading to the National Mall can also use dedicated shuttle services from here.
The Recreation Pier features a curved design with a distinctive structural system underneath. Visitors find custom swings and a large fire feature here that provides warmth on chilly days.
