The Speed Art Museum spans multiple levels with galleries displaying collections from ancient artifacts to modern paintings and contemporary installations.
Founded in 1925 by Hattie Bishop Speed as a memorial to her husband James Breckinridge Speed, the museum opened its doors in 1927.
The museum holds over 7,000 pieces in its permanent collection, including European and American paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts from various periods.
Located at 2035 South Third Street, the museum offers free admission on Sundays through March 2025 and remains closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The North Building features a triple-height 60-foot-tall atrium, connecting three floors of gallery space through a suspended open-air staircase.
