Roller Skater, Steel roller coaster in Kentucky Kingdom, United States
The Roller Skater is a steel roller coaster with a track spanning roughly 680 feet and reaching a peak height of 30 feet above the ground. Its distinctive coaster cars are shaped like roller skates and propel riders through the course at speeds approaching 22 miles per hour.
The ride opened in April 1994 as part of a significant expansion initiative at Kentucky Kingdom. This development brought several new attractions to the park simultaneously and represented a major growth period for the venue.
This ride introduces younger guests to roller coasters in a way that builds confidence without overwhelming them. Families often use it as a stepping stone before trying more intense attractions in the park.
Each train accommodates 16 riders and operates consistently throughout the day when the park is open. The ride completes its course quickly, so plan to experience it multiple times if desired without long waits between rides.
This coaster uses a booster wheel lift system that accelerates riders more gently than traditional chain lifts. The roller skate-shaped cars were a distinctive design choice by manufacturer Vekoma that makes the ride instantly recognizable.
