Cazenovia is a town in Madison County, New York, spreading across rolling terrain with Cazenovia Lake at its center. The lake shapes the landscape and defines much of what residents and visitors experience when moving through this part of central New York.
The town began in 1793 when John Lincklaen arrived as a land agent for the Holland Land Company and started developing the area. It was named after Theophile Cazenove, the company's European director who oversaw its operations.
