Gardiner

Gardiner is a town in southeastern Ulster County, New York, spreading across mountains and valleys with the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail corridor running through it. The area contains different landscapes, from hillsides to open fields, connected by a former railroad line that now serves as a recreational path.

The town was established in 1853 through a New York State Legislature act that combined territories from New Paltz, Rochester, and Denning towns. This administrative reorganization created the present community from what had been separate jurisdictions.

The Phillies Bridge Farm Project operates one of New York State's oldest continuously farmed lands, connecting agriculture with educational programs that involve residents in seasonal work.

The location sits roughly 70 miles north of New York City with access to three regional airports: Stewart International, Orange County, and Dutchess County. Proximity to these transportation hubs makes arriving in the area straightforward and convenient.

A major fire in 1925 destroyed much of the village and prompted its rebuilding in a more modern fashion. Many structures visible today come from this reconstruction period or were carefully restored to maintain traces of earlier times.
