Harvard Art Museums, Art museum in Harvard Square, Cambridge, US
The Harvard Art Museums form a museum complex in Harvard Square that brings together three collections beneath a modern glass roof: the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum. The building spans five floors and displays works ranging from antiquity to the present day.
The Fogg Museum opened in 1896 as the first institution and grew through donations and mergers with other collections. The three museums moved into the redesigned building on Broadway in 2014.
The name honors John Harvard, the donor who helped establish the university in the 17th century. Visitors today see a collection that students and faculty actively use as a teaching and research tool.
The exhibitions are open Tuesday through Sunday between 10 AM and 5 PM, and admission is free. The galleries spread across multiple floors, so plan time to explore them comfortably.
A central courtyard runs through the building and allows daylight to reach the lower floors. The collections hold over 250,000 objects from all continents and periods.
