1700 Market, Office building in Market West, Philadelphia, US
1700 Market is a 32-story office skyscraper in Philadelphia standing about 430 feet (130 meters) tall. The structure features precast concrete panels with tinted glass windows and includes retail spaces on its lower floors.
Completed in 1968, this building was the tallest construction project finished in Philadelphia during the 1960s, designed by the firm Murphy Levy Wurman. It replaced the Fox Theatre that had previously stood on the same site.
The lobby displays several art installations, including a yellow fox sculpture that references the former Fox Theatre once located on this site. These artworks connect the building's present to its predecessors.
The building provides parking in a five-story garage beneath the structure and has ground-level retail for shopping and services. Visitors should note this is a private office building, so access to interior spaces is limited to public areas like the lobby.
The building uses ultraviolet light purification systems and weather-responsive fresh air intake controls that adjust automatically. These environmental technologies were remarkably advanced for the time it was built.
