The Christmas Village in Philadelphia, German Christmas market in LOVE Park, Philadelphia, US
The Christmas Village in Philadelphia is a seasonal Christmas market that takes place each winter in LOVE Park, in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. Around 120 vendors occupy wooden booths arranged along narrow walkways, offering seasonal gifts, ornaments, toys, clothing, and food from different countries.
The market first opened in 2008 and grew into one of the most-visited seasonal events in the region over the following years. While LOVE Park was being renovated, the market moved to a temporary location in front of City Hall before returning in 2017.
Many of the foods sold here come from German holiday traditions, such as bratwurst, stollen, and lebkuchen. Local school choirs and musicians perform on-site, so there is often singing in the air while people walk between the stalls.
The market runs through winter weather, so wearing warm layers is a good idea before heading out. When the cold or the crowds get to be too much, the LOVE Park Visitors Center nearby offers a sheltered indoor space to take a break.
Inside the LOVE Park Visitors Center, a Festival of Trees displays holiday trees decorated by local organizations and artists, each with its own theme. Most visitors walk past the entrance without realizing the display is there, making it a quieter spot within a busy event.
