A. W. Marion State Park, State park in Circleville, United States
A. W. Marion State Park is a nature preserve in central Ohio that stretches around Hargus Lake and features woodland trails as well as open grassland areas. The lake itself covers about 145 acres while the entire protected area spans more than 310 acres.
An earthen dam was built in 1948 on Hargus Creek to create the water body and develop the area into a state park. This dam marked the beginning of what officially opened to the public as a park in 1950.
The area holds traces of ancient settlements that date back over two thousand years. Visitors can still see circular earthworks today that were built by these early cultures.
A well-maintained path of about 5 miles circles the lake and offers several access points for exploration. Visitors should know that electric motors are allowed on the water and the park is particularly good for fishing and water activities.
The lake was stocked with muskellunge, a rare fish species that anglers rarely find elsewhere in this region. These specialized fish populations make the park a draw for experienced anglers seeking a different kind of fishing challenge.
