Angelica Rock, Rock island in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, US.
Angelica Rock is a roughly one-acre rock formation rising from Buzzards Bay waters, featuring two distinct shoreline types. Rocky beaches characterize its east side, while sandy shores line its north side.
Professor Aris T. Papas purchased the formation in the early 1970s and built a windmill on it. The structure stood for decades before collapsing in the 2010s.
The formation goes by two names: nautical charts call it Angelica Rock, while the Town of Fairhaven refers to it as Angelica Island. This dual naming shows how local residents and sailors perceive the same place differently.
The formation sits southwest of Sconticut Neck and Wilbur's Point and is accessible only by boat, as the privately owned land has no development. Plan for water travel and check tide times before attempting to land.
The surface blends rock formations with sea grass, creating a natural habitat where visitors can observe life. Ribbed mussels populate the rocks surrounding the shores, marking a key feature of this water environment.
