Arboretum of the Barnes Foundation, Botanical garden in Merion, Pennsylvania, US.
The Barnes Arboretum encompasses 12 acres of land with over 2,500 varieties of plants, including extensive collections of magnolias, peonies, and lilacs.
The property originated in the 1880s when Captain Joseph Lapsley Wilson planted over 200 tree species, before Dr. Albert Barnes and Laura Barnes purchased it in 1922.
Laura Barnes established a horticulture school in 1940 at the arboretum, creating educational programs that continue through Saint Joseph's University management since 2018.
The arboretum welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and weekends from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM, without requiring reservations.
The herbarium maintains 10,000 preserved plant specimens while the greenhouse, reconstructed in 2002, houses 250 plant varieties for research and display.
