The arena opened its doors on February 25, 1967, following a construction period that required an investment of 1.8 million dollars.
The facility serves as the central venue for the Bowling Green Falcons men's ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The arena provides multiple programs including public skating sessions, figure skating classes, youth hockey leagues, and collegiate team practices.
The venue underwent a name change in 2016 to honor the Slater family's financial contributions toward facility improvements and program development.
