Baldhill Dam, Embankment dam in Barnes County, US
The Baldhill Dam extends 1800 feet across the Sheyenne River, featuring three tainter gates and rising 60 feet above the water level.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers constructed the Baldhill Dam in 1951 to establish water storage and flood control mechanisms in North Dakota.
The reservoir created by the dam, Lake Ashtabula, takes its name from Native American language, translating to Fish River in English.
The dam maintains a storage capacity of 69,500 acre-feet during normal operations and regulates water flow through the Sheyenne River system.
Lake Ashtabula, formed by the dam, stretches 27 miles north to south and supports multiple fish species including walleye and northern pike.
