Barren River Lake State Resort Park, Lake state park in Kentucky, US
The state park encompasses a 10,000-acre lake with boat docks, marina facilities, and forested areas for outdoor recreation near Glasgow and Scottsville.
The park came into existence on January 1, 1965, when the state purchased farms near the lake and received additional land from the Louisville Corps of Engineers.
The Glasgow Highland Games, a Scottish heritage celebration with thousands of participants, takes place at the park during the first weekend of June.
The park provides 22 two-bedroom cottages with double bathrooms, plus a 99-site campground with utility hookups for extended outdoor stays.
The name 'Barren' originates from the region's grassland savannah, created by Native Americans who burned forests to hunt game animals.
