The 68-acre Belmont Estate features a Georgian-style mansion built in 1738, surrounded by formal gardens and an aqua garden in Howard County.
Caleb Dorsey Jr acquired the estate in 1732 as a wedding gift and established iron forges along the Patapsco River tributaries with his brother.
The mansion contained a reproduction of Gilbert Stuart's portrait of George Washington, reflecting the early American artistic preferences of wealthy landowners.
Howard County Recreation and Parks maintains the property for conferences, private events, and environmental education programs since its 2012 acquisition.
The estate grounds contain the burial site of a notable steeplechase horse owned by Howard Bruce, a previous resident of the property.
