Borderland State Park, Historic state park in Easton, United States
Borderland State Park is a protected area in Massachusetts featuring a three-story mansion dating from 1910 and more than 20 miles of trails winding through wooded hills. Six ponds are scattered across the roughly 1,843-acre grounds, which include forest, open meadows, and manicured lawns around the main building.
Artist Blanche Ames and her husband, botanist Oakes Ames, built the estate in the early 20th century and named it for its boundary location. Massachusetts acquired the property in 1971 and converted it into a public park.
The name Borderland comes from its location straddling two towns, while today the estate serves as a place for quiet walks and nature observation. Visitors often follow the paths around the ponds, where anglers and hikers meet in an easy, informal way.
The grounds are open daily from 8 AM to 4 PM, with parking fees of 5 dollars for Massachusetts residents and 20 dollars for others. The trails are suitable for gentle walks, while the mansion is accessible at certain times for guided tours.
Some trails are specifically designed for mountain biking, including NEMBA Trail and Bob's Trail, which wind through forested sections. The ponds are regularly stocked with bass and pickerel, so anglers often line the shores in the morning or afternoon.
