Bridge Island Meadows, Nature reserve in Millis, United States
Bridge Island Meadows is a nature reserve in Millis containing wetlands and woodlands that stretch along the Charles River. A forested hilltop in the southern section rises noticeably above the surrounding terrain.
The land came under protection in 1974 after a private donation by Dr. and Mrs. John D. Constable to The Trustees of Reservations. This gift ensured the property would remain a natural space for future generations.
The reserve serves local schools as a place to learn about native plants and wildlife in their natural habitats. Students and visitors can observe how wetlands and forests support different species living side by side.
You need a kayak or small boat to reach the site, paddling along the Charles River and turning west near Medfield State Hospital into South End Pond. Plan your visit during seasons when water levels allow safe passage.
Tall grasses and dense vegetation surround a forested knoll that creates natural viewing spots overlooking the Charles River floodplain. These elevated points let visitors see across the wetland landscape far below them.
