Burke Lake Park, Recreational park in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
Burke Lake Park is a public recreational area near Fairfax Station, Virginia, built around a large freshwater lake that sits at its center. Trails circle the water, and the grounds also include boat launches, fishing piers, a disc golf course, a miniature train, and picnic shelters.
The land was acquired by Fairfax County in the mid-20th century and gradually developed into a public park open to all residents. The lake was formed by damming Rocky Run, a small creek that once ran through the area.
On weekends, families from across Fairfax County gather here to fish, rent paddleboats, or walk the trail around the water. Picnic shelters fill up early on warm days, which gives the park a relaxed, neighborhood feel.
The park sits just off Route 123 and is also accessible from Burke Lake Road, with a large parking area near the main entrance. Weekends draw bigger crowds, so arriving in the morning gives you more space on the trails and at the picnic areas.
A small island sits in the middle of the lake and serves as a protected refuge for nesting birds, visible from the trail or from a boat but off limits to visitors. This makes it one of the few spots in the park where wildlife goes completely undisturbed.
