The Gothic Revival structure at 971 Beech Avenue features a tall steeple, gargoyles, vaulted oak ceilings, and three Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass windows.
Following the destruction of Christ Methodist Episcopal Church by fire in 1891, the congregation divided into two entities, leading to Calvary's construction from 1892 to 1895.
The church maintains an active music program with the Renewal Choir performing spirituals while the New Direction Singers introduce modern praise songs during services.
Sunday services begin at 11 AM with responsive prayers and hymns, followed by a fellowship hour in the chapel where attendees gather for refreshments.
The building received three separate historical designations: from Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, City of Pittsburgh, and National Register of Historic Places.
