Cape May County Park & Zoo

Cape May County Park & Zoo is a large facility spread across more than 200 acres with enclosures holding several hundred animals from different parts of the world. The grounds display habitats like the African Savanna and include aviaries and other areas for various wildlife.

The grounds began as a Matthews family plantation before 40 acres were given to Cape May County in 1942 for public recreation. From this gift, the zoo gradually developed into the facility visitors see today.

The zoo maintains species survival programs through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, contributing to global wildlife conservation and education initiatives.

The park grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset, though the zoo section follows its own hours. It helps to check specific operating times before visiting, particularly if you come in certain seasons.

The zoo participates in international rescue programs for endangered species, meaning some animals here play a role in worldwide conservation efforts. Visitors can see creatures that are part of these specialized breeding initiatives.
