Chase Park Plaza Hotel, building in Missouri, United States
Chase Park Plaza Hotel is a hotel in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, housed in a multi-story building dating from the early 1920s. It contains several dining rooms, ballrooms, a roof garden, and restaurant spaces that each serve a different type of menu.
The hotel opened in 1922 and was at the time one of the most expensive of its kind in the United States, built with marble floors and plasterwork inspired by Italian Renaissance design. It went through several closures and restorations over the decades before being converted into the luxury property it is today.
The name comes from two separate buildings, the Chase Hotel and the Park Plaza Hotel, that were later joined together. Walking through the public areas today, you can notice design details from different periods sitting side by side.
The hotel sits in the Central West End neighborhood, which is walkable and served by public transit. The building has multiple levels and distinct areas, so allow extra time if you want to explore beyond the main lobby.
The hotel once had a famous pool with a gold-tiled surface where celebrities swam in the 1950s and which was occasionally broadcast on television. The pool became the scene of unusual incidents over the years, including a man who attempted to swim there naked at night.
