Chatfield Hollow State Park, State park and recreation area in Killingworth, United States
Spread across 412 acres, Chatfield Hollow State Park features an 18-mile trail network connecting dense forests, metamorphic outcrops, and natural caves.
The Civilian Conservation Corps developed the area in the 1930s, creating Schreeder Pond by constructing an earth and stone dam across Chatfield Brook.
The Hammonasset indigenous people used the park's large granite rock overhangs, now known as Indian Caves, for shelter until 1633.
The park provides facilities for swimming, trout fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and picnicking, with Oak Lodge available for group reservations.
The bedrock ledges contain Monson Gneiss, a medium-to-coarse-grained rock formation composed of plagioclase, quartz, and biotite minerals.
