The Centre Furnace Mansion House stands on a knoll, featuring Late Victorian and Georgian architectural elements with surrounding period-inspired gardens and walkways.
The residence, built in 1830, served as home to ironmaster Moses Thompson and his family from 1842 to 1891, during the peak of iron production.
The mansion represents the connection between industrial heritage and education, as its owners donated 200 acres of land to establish Pennsylvania State University.
The Centre County Historical Society conducts tours of the mansion every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM by reservation.
A precise scale model of the mansion, crafted at one inch to one foot, remains on permanent display within the historical building.
