The Arboretum at Penn State, Botanical garden in State College, Pennsylvania.
The Arboretum at Penn State spreads across 370 acres with gardens, meadows, and walking paths alongside the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. Within this space are themed garden sections, water features, and specialized habitats for birds and pollinating insects.
Development began in 2005 with the planting of a white oak tree as a symbolic start. Major expansion followed when a significant financial contribution enabled the construction and modernization of the grounds.
The Childhood's Gate Children's Garden offers learning spaces through wildlife sculptures and a glass house for nature programs. This area connects playful exploration with discovering native plants and animals.
The gardens are open daily from sunrise to sunset with seasonal plant displays and water features to explore. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to wander through the different garden areas, as the grounds are extensive.
The Rose and Fragrance Garden houses hundreds of roses and tree peonies in a traditional cottage layout. Visitors can also stroll through a dedicated iris walk arranged with different varieties, complemented by fragrant herbs.
