Clinton Valley Center, Historic medical complex in Pontiac, United States.
Clinton Valley Center was a historic medical complex in Pontiac featuring Renaissance Revival architectural details. The facility had a central administrative building with extended patient care wings branching out on either side.
The facility received state funding in 1873 and opened in 1878 to serve psychiatric patients. It operated for more than a century before closing in 1997 and facing demolition several years later.
The facility emphasized occupational therapy and recreational programs as alternatives to restraint-based treatment. This approach shaped daily life for patients and reflected a more humane philosophy toward mental health care.
The site is no longer accessible to the public as it has been converted into a residential neighborhood. Visitors cannot explore the grounds, though historical records and photographs document the scale of the former complex.
The grounds expanded from a single building to 44 structures, including an Italian Renaissance-style chapel completed in 1907. This chapel served as a spiritual space within the sprawling medical campus.
