Pontiac is a county seat in Oakland County in southeast Michigan, located approximately 26 miles northwest of Detroit. The city sits at an elevation near 920 feet (280 m) and includes residential and commercial districts along the Clinton River.
The settlement was established in 1818 as the second European-American community near Detroit after Dearborn and named after an Ottawa chief. During the 20th century, it grew into an automotive manufacturing center with large production facilities.
