Clinton Arena, arena in Clinton, Oneida County, New York, Verenigde Staten van Amerika
Clinton Arena is an indoor ice sports facility in Clinton, New York, built in the late 1940s using concrete blocks. The two-story building features a large skating surface in the center with wooden bench seating for approximately 2000 spectators and is supported by a Pennsylvania Truss roof system.
The arena was built in 1948 after World War II through community effort, with residents selling loan certificates and raffling a car to fund the project. The original building was destroyed by fire in September 1953 but was rebuilt in 1954, allowing the community to continue its role as a sports center.
The arena has served as a gathering place for the community since opening in 1948, hosting the Clinton Figure Skating Club and the local hockey team. The facility became central to how residents spent winters together, with the sport shaping local identity and bringing families to watch games and competitions.
The facility operates during winter months from October through April and is used by Clinton Central School and local hockey and figure skating clubs. Located on Kirkland Avenue, it offers locker rooms, offices, and ample space for various sports events and community gatherings.
Scenes from the film Slap Shot were filmed inside this building in 1977, connecting the venue to a popular hockey movie. In 2018 it was named Kraft Hockeyville USA and received funding for facility upgrades along with hosting an NHL preseason game between the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets.
