Cold Mountain, Mountain summit in western North Carolina, United States.
Cold Mountain rises to an elevation of 6,030 feet within the Shining Rock Wilderness area of Pisgah National Forest, southeast of Waynesville.
The mountain lands belonged to George Washington Vanderbilt II until his widow sold them to establish the first national forest in eastern United States.
The mountain gained recognition through Charles Frazier's 1997 novel and subsequent film adaptation, which tells a story set during the Civil War period.
Hikers can reach the summit via the Art Loeb Trail, completing a 10.6-mile round trip with an elevation change of 2,800 feet.
The Southern Appalachian Highland Conservancy acquired 162 acres near Cold Mountain in 2016 to expand the Cold Mountain Game Lands.
